While doing the values activity, I read through the different definitions and compared them to a part of my life. I thought about my life experiences, and the things I cared about in certain situations, like if I cared about getting recognition on a project or felt like others needed more compassion. The results I got for my most important values were equality, compassion and recognition. For my least important values I got spiritual growth, responsibility and belonging. I don’t completely disagree with my results. My most important values are accurate, I truly believe in equality, everyone deserves the same chance no matter who you are. I feel as though I am a very compassionate person, and I believe in recognition because it helps others to become the best versions of themselves. For my least important values, I still do believe in responsibility and belonging, I believe in finding a place where you belong, a group of people or a place where you feel yourself but the statement they used was “I believe it is important for people to feel connected to and liked by others.” I do believe finding connections with others is important but what I don’t believe in is constantly being liked by others. The same goes with responsibility the statement read “I believe it is important for people to voluntarily do what is expected of them.” I believe in doing and taking care of the things you are responsible for, but you should not be responsible for what others think you should be doing.

While reading the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, I found that quality education aligned with my goals the most. It talks about equality for everyone, caring about whether they get the same chances as others, and they also recognize that certain people don’t have the same chances as others and why. Equality and equity are a passion of mine; I believe that everyone, no matter who you are, should get the same opportunity as someone else. If you blow your chance that’s on you but you were given that chance like everyone else. The reason why equality is a big passion of mine is because I believe in the power of people and knowledge.

I haven’t landed on an action yet, but I have ideas. I want to do something that helps education around the world, and I want to do something to educate others about education around the world. I want people to be aware of the power that comes with education. The biggest thing in the western part of the world is getting funding to help the kids in schools. Around the world, it might have to do with gender, poverty, or war. My ideas are to gather funding but not in the usual way, maybe a website, or a presentation. Something small with a big impact. Thank you for reading my blog if you have any ideas for an action, please don’t be afraid to comment.

Hi Veronica,
I love your post, and I believe we have similar interests in this project. I also believe that education worldwide is a crucial part of our societal growth and I would love to work alongside you on this project for the Social responsibility course. I found an article I think you would find just as interesting as I did. It talks about different ways education can power a better world.
