The Connection between Beauty and Self Esteem As a society we value beauty? Whether it be a flower, a sunset, a car or a person. As a society we also value intelligence, kindness, strength, speed, humor, compassion, and creativity. What we choose to see or not, is influenced by family, peers, social media, marketing messaging and life experiences.(1) The value of beauty can turn into a quest to become beautiful. Sometimes we can start to understand that to be beautiful is to be valued. A...Read More...
Hello everybody, Sorry I haven't posted in quite a while, I've been at a bit of a lull in terms of my research as I am waiting for some survey results to come in. However, I dug up some new research on another type of personality test: The Big Five. The Big Five is a personality test that is considered to be more valid than MBTI, mainly because it assesses people using a range of traits, (2) rather than giving them four letters and placing them in a box. Many psychologists also believe that...Read More...

First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone who sent me information and links last post. They really helped me go into the right direction. However, the war between Modern North American Medicine (Which I am defining as whatever your GP would recommend) and Naturopathy (Specifically traditional medicine and plant usage for one's well being) can be a messy battlefield. Naturopathy articles themselves can often be very questionable... ...so, I've created a chart to help me stay...Read More...

Hi everyone, for this post I will be sharing information about how much students use technology in their everyday lives. This week I watched a movie called Screenagers. Round 1 Science of Beauty How does the brain decide what is beautiful? Some say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder” What are we looking at? What do we really see? According to wikipedia “Beauty" is an experience that often involves an interpretation of some entity as being in balance and harmony with nature , which may lead to feelings of attraction and emotional well-being . Anjan Chatter , a cognitive neuroscientist explored studies of how the brain responds to characteristics...Read More...

I've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with natural remedies. On one hand the idea of a cold-curing remedy hiding away in the confines of my kitchen cupboard sounds fantastic, but it also sounds fantastical. If modern North American medicine costs so much more than a package of organic ginger tea, why is cold and flu medication so popular? While the Nature Vs Science debate can be a harsh and unforgiving battleground, I've decided to look for answers with a completely open mind.Read More...

Hello lovely people, This is going to be my last "traditional" research round, because in the next few weeks I am going to be conducting surveys. I will keep you all up to date on the data I acquire and I will absolutely continue to post. Anyways, back to the research. Is it possible to make the MBTI test more reliable? “Personality is qualitative." (1) It doesn’t have exact numbers, but it’s more about qualities, so it is often difficult to find concrete answers to any personality test. Of...Read More...

Hi everyone, it has been a long time since I last posted, but for the next couple of months I will be gathering research about technology and kids. The essential question that I am starting with is: How does educating kids about the impact of technology affect how they use it? I am very interested in how much kids are exposed to screens and technology and how that affects their development. I have been thinking a lot about how if we know so much about technology, why we still continue to use...Read More...

Hi again! Since we are continuing with this cycle, I have decided to look specifically into two more kinds of alternative medicine. This week, I will look into Ayurveda, what it is, how it works, what it is used to treat, and how it does so. In the next two weeks, I will either be looking into naturopathy or other specific areas such as massage therapy or chiropractic medicine (or all of these!!), depending on how much time I have for research. Finally, I will outline some...Read More...

VAPING

Trizah Gatuiri (Sweetwaters)
Although e-cigarettes may not be as harmful to one's health as cigarette smoking. vaping is especially damaging to the younger user. most types of e-cigarettes including the most popular brand juul contain nicotine, the addictive drug found in traditional tobacco cigarettes. According to my research i found out that e -cigarettes were developed in part to help adult smokers cut their tobacco use to provide a "healthier" alternative. one problem with vaping is that teens hear that it's not as...Read More...

Hey!
