June 2019

Hi everyone. Last week I conducted the second survey with grade 8’s at my school. I wasn’t able to share it with all of them and was only able to get 37 responses, as opposed to the 68 that I got the first time. The first question I asked was what their biggest takeaway from Screenagers was. For six of them, their biggest takeaway had something to do with videogame rehab. Some had never realized that it was something that even existed, others thought that it was unnecessary and one of them...Read More...

Hello everyone, I found another fun source that I’ll be mainly using for today. It’s a Naturopathy Wiki created for and edited by naturopaths. http://www.ndhealthfacts.org They have peer reviewed pieces, however they were reviewed by naturopathic institutes. Luckily though, they did have a section on Skincare that had some references. One thing I noted is the fact they recommended seeking a naturopathic doctor if you are experiencing negative side effects.Read More...

The issue of corruption resonates in developing countries. In the Philippines, for instance, the slogan of the coalition that is likely to win the 2010 presidential elections is "Without corrupt officials, there are no poor people." Not surprisingly, the international financial institutions have weighed in. The World Bank has made "good governance" a major thrust of its work, asserting that the "World Bank Group focus on governance and anticorruption (GAC) follows from its mandate to reduce...Read More...

MALAYSIA is agog with speculation. The government, which charged a sitting minister and a prominent businessman with corruption earlier this month, says it has a list of 18 other high-profile suspects due for similar treatment. Opposition politicians say that Rafidah Aziz, the minister of trade, should be among them. She denies any wrong-doing and says she will sue her critics for defamation—a threat they claim to welcome as a chance to prove their accusations in court. Is the pervasiveness...Read More...

How Do We Determine the Reliability of Online Sources? (PVC Plastics) #3

Hi hi, Now I'll talk about my own research. In conclusion, I began to notice a pattern (remember patterns are very good). Many studies previously mentioned that VC is carcinogenic (can cause cancer), has properties that increases change/damage in DNA, can cause or increase risks of fatty liver damage/disease (steatohepatitis). But through my check list I saw two studies mentioned VC causes steatohepatitis, but they weren't as reliable as the other ones. So I wouldn't put as much weight to...Read More...

How Do We Determine the Reliability of Online Sources? (PVC Plastics) #2

Hello again, As my research came to an end, I have made yet another table, but to its disguise it's a checklist. My ‘checklist’ shows in summary the reliability of each article I looked at. This will help me distribute the ‘weight’ of each article. For example, if one article is making enormous claims that some people would find believable, but in reality it is: Conducted on 2 people Posted in a poor journal And the authors degrees came from the University of Rainbows and Unicorns (or URU...Read More...

How Do We Determine the Reliability of Online Sources? (PVC Plastics) #1

Hello everyone, Quite some time ago I started my research on toxicity of VC (Vinyl Chloride), which is the main part of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), a commonly used plastic. We all know how much harm plastic, especially single use plastics cause to the environment and everything around us. Instead I was wondering what type of harm can it cause directly to the people in contact with the production of a well known plastic, PVC. When I first started researching my topic, I googled “is PVC...Read More...

How does emotional abuse impact people?

Hey all! My last inquiry didn't pan out the way I though it would. So instead of just dumping all of my information and research in a catch-up post, I'm starting a new inquiry. I have recently been working on a student documentary on the topic of my friends' experience with emotional abuse. The documentary will highlight the effects of emotional abuse on teenagers. However, I would like to pursue research on the effects of emotional or psychological abuse beyond teenage-hood, as well. So,...Read More...

Round 2/3 - Does being vegetarian help animals and is it a sustainable way to live your life?

Big question: Does being vegetarian help animals and is it a sustainable way to live your life? Hi, sorry this post is so late, I ran into multiple technical difficulties and my post was deleted multiple times, but I’m back at it now! So this round will be both my round 2 and 3. I’ve divided it up into multiple parts so it’s easier to read. I also interviewed multiple vegetarian high schoolers to ask them about their experience being vegetarian. One thing to note is that any information...Read More...

Artificial Pancreas

Haley Mills (LFAS)
The artificial Pancreas is a rather simple device. It is designed to automatically “release the correct amount of insulin in response to varying blood sugar levels.” (Renfrew Group International |, 2019). A pancreas will release insulin when it is trying to control glucose levels. People with diabetes are not able to do so properly or effectively. “In the current device a reservoir of inulin and a glucose sensitive polymeric gel barrier act to maintain blood sugar levels.” (Renfrew Group...Read More...

Artificial Hearts

Haley Mills (LFAS)
Artificial hearts are used for replacing the original biological heart when the biological heart is failing and can no longer be used. The artificial heart is very useful as it helps for people who are on a waitlist for a transplant, the artificial heart can buy them time and/or they can give it to someone else in the meantime. Unfortunately, the artificial heart does not last very long, around five years max, usually less. It is mainly there just to help with the very long wait of the...Read More...
Hello everyone! This will be my last post on the site, at least for a while or unless I change this test. I have created some questions based around "The Big Five" personality traits, because they are known to be more reliable than the MBTI test. I have created the questions based around sources I have looked at for my previous research rounds, as well as tests I have taken. I hope you all find some time to take the test, and you enjoy!
