Why do poor countries stay poor? Hey everyone! For today’s round of research I’ll be focusing on what political factors play a role in how poor a country is. Last week I gave you guys sort of an introduction on the difference between poor and rich countries and the characteristics you often see in both. These next few weeks I hope to explore more in depth into the poverty trap, starting off with how corruption, bad governing, tax evasion and war can make a poor country remain poor.Read More...

Can Video Games Make You Smarter? Hello everyone, I’ve been wondering for a couple months now, are video games a good thing or a bad thing? Hey everyone! So, it’s been a few weeks since I last posted on Butterfly Effect. Recently, I’ve been researching how the supernatural and religion intersect. After finally compiling all the information I needed, it was time to create a post. Enjoy! A common question among many people- especially author Jared Diamond (1), is why do so many supernatural beliefs persist in religion? (1,2,3,4) His theory is that religious beliefs were initially supernatural so believers had to show commitment to...Read More...

My inquiry question is "How do all forms of Art act as a social change agent?" and the focus of this cycle was Poetry. This cycle has impacted me greatly and has increased my appreciation for poetry, ten-fold. I never anticipated that all poems be written with such a larger than ones self, purpose in mind. Every poem/song I have analyzed was written with the intent to have a larger impact outside the authors own life. I naively believed that poems were written to be "pretty". Every action is...Read More...

For this B.Y.T I will be comparing Rosemary Makena's work on Types of Social Media and How it Benefits Individual Businesses, and my work on The Correlation Between Science and Mythos. My question in regards to these topic is how does this effect peoples worldly views? When I look at these two topics I see a similarity in the way that, in the root of the research, while they might be different methods they both wield the same results of spreading information; the validity of such information...Read More...

I Feel I learned a lot and my thinking has changed throughout this cycle immensely, I learned for this cycle that while having a plan is good it’s better to have an outline instead of a strict schedule by which to do things. While I do need to work on my motivation to get assignments done I need to also work on how to present my research in a way that isn’t so formulaic; by that I mean that instead of having a system where I, A) research B) explain I need to be more expansive, I need to...Read More...

Hello Everyone! Imagine, imagine being 6 and a half feet tall how much more stuff you could reach from the top cabinets. Imagine being half robot like the Terminator, or even maybe being extinct. All of these are possibilities of what we known as, Evolution. Even prosthetics may become for more than just for the disabled. An Oxford-led study showed that some HIV infected children in South Africa, lived healthy lives, it actually turned out that their DNA built a anti-HIV defence, it helped...Read More...

My question is: " What is the lifecycle of a Nation?" For Cycle 4, I want to take a look at actual nations, rather than systems behind them (as opposed to 2 of my previous cycles). I was inspired by someone's post about how to improve Kenya through nationalization. It made me think about how countries develop and improve, but also how a country falls. I instantly connected this to a documentary I watched a long time ago called "Four Horsemen" which mentioned something about patterns in the...Read More...

Hello all! First off i'll be replying to the comments of the last post (round 8) then onto the main dish... what allows us to pick ourselves up. Getting into mindset of being on track and such. This will be Part 1, a part 2 will be posted later on. Most likely the end post of these two cycles. Inquiry Question: How do you pick yourself back up? (Re-aligning your life) Lightly grazing my thoughts on this (without thinking too long and hard): I think motivation, help/support from others,...Read More...

Mural unveiling

Danielle Campani (Alumni-LFAS)
The mural was finally unveiled! It was very exciting to see the whole school (turns out not that big) all standing in anticipation of the mural unveil. The most memorable moment of the event must've been when half way through speeches a ripple of recognition went through the crowd of grade ones as they suddenly linked that the portraits we took of them this year formed into a forest. This really touched me and made me feel like this project and art has the ability to impact anyone no matter...Read More...

I have begun my research on ways that humanity could possibly make their heating and cooling systems more energy and gas efficient or just improve heating and cooling as a whole. For my first round of research I decided to look into easier ways that people could make their temperature systems better. Hey guys! So for my second round of research I'm going to be looking into nihilism! I've chosen to look into nihilism because while reading a basic description of it, I was instantly intrigued. The description read, "...for a true nihilist, there are no things such as value or knowledge. In fact, there is no point to human existence ." (1) Instantly I was confused at how a philosophy where humanity has no function could in any way allow a person to live a good and happy life. I also thought...Read More...

Hey everyone, This week I plan to talk about the different medical issues that revolve around sleep. I plan to focus on three main conditions: Insomnia, Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy. For each medical condition, I would like to uncover each issue, find symptoms and find a way to fix the condition or find a way for people to live with it. Before I dive into my post, I need to do my second myth. Myth #2 Insomnia is characterized by difficulty falling asleep. A common myth people hear all the time...Read More...
