Screening methods do not reveal all types of cancer. Both screening methods in this pilot project, (flexible sigmoidoscopy done once, or testing for hidden blood in the stool every other year), are expected to discover 60-70 per cent of tumours in the colon and rectum. A positive screening test can also often be a false alarm. Eight out of ten who are told that they have hidden blood in their stools do NOT have cancer. However, there is a greater possibility that they have polyps (possible...Read More...

It's a follow-up from my last years questions and research around mythology and the science behind it all. Last year I focused on the neurological benefits of exercise; how it has the ability to increase ones' critical thinking, how it increases blood flow to the brain and how it primes our brains for peak performance and learning efficiency. This year I plan on continuing on with this trend as well as asking some other, relatively unrelated, questions which will make guest appearances for 1 or 2 posts at a time. Probably half of my posts will be about the brain and the other half will be...Read More...

Group: Katelyn and Emily Many professionals have begun to discuss the possibility that milk may not be good for human consumption, others still believe milk is the ultimate drink. Many people believe milk helps to grow and strengthen bones. However, advocates of the alkaline diet say that cow’s dairy is acid-forming, altering the body’s pH balance and thus weakening bones. Some research suggests that countries with higher consumption of dairy also have higher rates of osteoporosis. In the...Read More...

Sophie: I believe this statement to be true. I have never experienced this myself, but it makes sense. An ongoing trouble is often something you think about a lot and it isn’t completely impossible to forget about, even in you sleep. Cole: I think it’d make a lot of sense for this to be correct. I had some recurring dreams when I was younger, but not anymore. It wouldn’t be a surprise if troubles or trauma in reality affect your dream state normally. Evidence/ Research: Recurring dreams are...Read More...
