Round 1 --- How the rise of eSports will affect the society?

Hi! Everyone! Do you guys have favorite eSports club, whatever for which game? For my round one research, I can introduce “eSports club”. ESports club is a kind of company which is for gamers to make a team and join the competition. Such as “IG”(Invictus Gaming, “OMG” (Oh My God), “SK gaming”, “Team WE”, “RNG”(Royal Never Give up), LGD, EDG, Fnatic, War3, Ehome, Alliance, CLG, C9……eSports club gives talent gamer a chance, and also bring some profit. In this round, I can introduce “eSports club”.

  1. OMG Electronic Sports Club

Oh My God is my favorite one! It is formed in June 2012. It has LOL section, Overwatch section, FIFA section and so on. OMG used to take the crown in LPL (LOL Pro League which is the highest level of LOL competition in China) in 2013. The first time I know LOL is my brother watching OMG vs WE in 2013. In 2014, LoL S4 World Championship, OMG vs FNC, in the second round, OMG was almost lost the game, however, shown as the video below, they made it by defending their “home” with only 50 blood left!!! Finally! They made it! In that game, all the commentary and the audience are screaming and crying, no matter which team they support. That game stimulates my passion of eSports. After that, me and my friends go to their online shop to buy the shirt with their logo on it even it is expensive. 【link 3】

  1. SKT

SK Telecom T1 is a Korean a professional gaming team based in South Korea. SK Telecom T1 is a works team of the South Korean telecommunications company SK Telecom. At the end of 2003, SK Telecom took the StarCraft Team Orion (formerly 4U) by Lim "BoxeR" Yo-Hwan under contract and set up the team under the conglomerate's banner. Lim Yo-Hwan took the role of team captain.[1] SK Telecom T1 is part of SK Sports, including the baseball team SK Wyverns from Incheon, the basketball team SK Knights in Seoul and Olympic champion Park Tae-Hwan.[2] The team is also sponsored by apparel company New Balance, fast-food restaurant Kraze,[citation needed] and pharmaceutical companies Dong-A and Otsuka. SKT's League of Legends team won 2013, 2015, 2016 League of Legends World Championships. 【link 4】

  1. WE

Team WE, the very first eSports club based in China, formed their first League of Legends team in March of 2011. Initially gaining recognition for their Warcraft 3 division, WE also sponsor players and teams for StarCraft II and DotA. 【link 5】

  1. RNG

Royal Never Give Up! This year, unfortunately, they almost won the game. Lots of LOL player deleted the game because of RNG and WE lost the game. RNG is the LPL counterpart team to Star Horn Royal Club. A number of their players played with either SHRC, Team King (following King's promotion and SHRC's relegation) or both, and the team also currently wears SHRC badges on its uniforms.

  1. SSG

Samsung Galaxy is a Korean a professional gaming team based in South Korea, part of KeSPA. The organization previously sponsored two sister teams, Samsung White and Samsung Blue.

All in all,  eSports club push the development of games; besides, their peripherals can also bring them profits.

Hey Ivy,

I liked the way you organized our research. This was a good way to start your topic as I didn't know what eSports was before reading your research and know ill have no problem understanding your upcoming research. A suggestion for you is to compare this to possibly being at a real sports game to see the differences (besides the fact that one is virtual). Also, maybe comparing it to other video games.

Anyways nice research, looking forward to reading your next one!

Hey Ivy!

Well said information in this post! I learned a few things i wouldn't have learned at all. (More or less because i am not into this side of the world) Something to look at could be that how this can be "big". So this means that this has been all company-sponsored etc type thing, but what are the outlooks on it being super at large. Perhaps it gets caught on by "National Teams" by country around the world - Leading to olympics or a new branch of olympics, Tech Olympics. The cheating that can be done in sports like drugs would be different and limited in terms of it being on "hacking". Perhaps this is something to see!

Keep it up!

Hey Ivy,

Interesting topic. E-Sports are certainly much more prevalent and cared about by pop culture nowadays. Well it is super interesting to learn about different clubs and E-Sports teams I wonder if you could delve more into the possibility of E-Sports being represented in a form of olympics or on as large a scale as sports?
