Hello everyone, today I will be discussing how we can protect ourselves against the harmful rays of the sun,

Top Ten Ways to Protect Yourself from the Sun

  1. Use sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15. Make sure it is water-resistant and reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
  2. Never use artificial tanning equipment
  3. Be generous in application of sunscreen. An ounce of sunscreen should cover the face, neck, arms and legs of the average adult.
  4. Wear protective clothing, like hats, sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts and pants
  5. Stay in the shade as much as possible, even at the beach, by using a parasol
  6. Avoid tanning beds as ultraviolet light can cause skin cancer and wrinkling.
  7. Protect children by applying sunscreen often with an SPF of at least 15, having them play in the shade and wear protective clothing.
  8. Babies below the age of 6 months should never be in direct sunlight and should always wear a hat and clothing that protects them from UV rays.
  9. Adults should do regular self-exams. It is an easy and a better way to detect abnormalities
  10. Go to your dermatologist and have a complete body scan once a year                                                                                                                                 Refference;http://www.healthywomen.org/co...protect-yourself-sun                                                                                                                                 in the next time round research i will be looking at the positive and negative effects of solar radiation.

Hi Docars,

Thank you for teaching me about ways to protect myself from the sun. I think this is very helpful because the sun can be beneficial but also harmful if there is too much exposure. I did not know that babies under 6 months should not have any direct contact with the sun. Too much UV rays can even cause skin cancer. I think you can look at how the sun is good for our body and what will happen if we did not have a sun, I think that will be fun to research into. You could also see what happens if the sun was closer what UV rays would do.

Here are some sites that may help you:
