Inquiry Question - Why do we dream?

Hi everyone!

For this cycle of research, I’ll be keeping my inquiry question from last cycle “Why do we dream?”

Last cycle, the biggest things I looked into was what a dream actually is and all the different types, what actually happens in your body and brain while you dream, different sleep disorders and how they affect your dreams and sleep, and mental illnesses and what affect they could have on your dreams.

So for this cycle, in brief, I want to compare dreaming in adults versus children and and all the psychological impacts it could have on different ages. Another thing I wanted to look into was comparing the dreams/sleep of humans to animals. For an example, do animals follow the same REM sleep cycle we do or is it different?

In my project plan, I will be going in much more detail. If you have any ideas feel free to let know!

Thanks for reading!

Hey Rhea!

I'm so glad you decided to keep your inquiry question as I personally find it quite interesting and evidently, there's so much more left to talk about! I find the fact that you're interested in comparing the REM sleep cycle of humans to animals very intriguing. Personally, I know next to nothing about animals and whether or not they dream, so I look forward to reading about this.

Here are some sources that may be of use to you:

Great job and good luck!
