Inquiry Question

Hi everyone, I've decided to move on to a completely different inquiry topic for this cycle. My new question is: Why do some suffer from more from performance anxiety than others? The reason I want to look into this is because I'm in grade 8 piano right now, so I have to do a lot of competitions, recitals and festivals, and I tend to get extremely and unnecessarily nervous before performing. I also used to do a lot of public speaking when I was younger - I always did the Concours d'Arts...Read More...

Hi everyone, it is crazy to believe that this is the last cycle of the year! I am looking forward to basing my last cycle on healthy lifestyles and habits. I want to look into food/diet, mental health, technology, relationships, exercise etc. This is really interesting for me and I am excited to see what I learn. I hope this question will help me in my own routine and lifestyle to educate me on moderation and other aspects of healthy living. If you have any suggestions or comments on...Read More...

Inquiry Cycle 7

Juliana Nunes (Charles Best)
Hi Butterfly Effect, After a lot of thought, I decided to do a project focusing on mental health. Lately I have started to realize how serious and common this is, especially in high school. Because of this, I am going to centralize my project on teens and high school students. My inquiry question is: "Why are mental health issues common in teenagers and students?" Any feedback or suggestions is greatly appreciated, JulianaRead More...

Hey everyone, For my third cycle this year, I decided to stick with my topic of teen issues, and I realized there are a lot of stereotypes about us that aren't true. Some common stereotypes I can think of are teens are lazy, addicted to social media and selfish. Like all stereotypes, they may apply to some people but not everyone as a whole. I decided to choose a question a little bit less opinionated this cycle because I had troubles last time with biased research. I still would love to...Read More...

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

Benito Maina (Tigithi)
HOW COULD BE THE WORLD WITHOUT WILDLIFE ? What would the world absent of wildlife look like? We might think of a morning without the chiming song of birds, an ocean without whales spouting blasts of sea water beside ships, or a forest without an elephant,a hare,a leopard,a rhino,a buffalo or the king of the jungle the Lion that we all know. This is a world we cannot imagine, because it is one we should not imagine. If we continue with the factors affecting stand up together to make sure this...Read More...

Hello fellow humans! In this round, I'm looking at textiles of the time period I'm focussing on, as well as touching on what the textile industry is like today. I'm looking at colours, patterns, and materials that make certain looks so popular. Here are my findings. Denim Instead of mentioning denim in every category, I made a category for denim itself. If you've been following my research in the past, you may notice that I bring up denim a lot. Denim is never going away! The reason it's...Read More...

Inquiry Question

Evan McFee (Alumni-LFAS)
Hi everybody! Sorry for the late start, as I had a few things to sort out first. My topic is on technology, specifically Ultraviolet-emitting diodes such as computers, Iphones, TV's, Walkman's, etc. (okay, maybe not Walkman's). I want to figure out their effects on the brain, and why they are so addicting to nearly everyone that uses them. Whether it's social media, or video games, or instant messaging, these technologies have transformed the way we interact with and view the world around...Read More...

Hello everybody! This round of research for me was all about fashion and the environment. The fashion industry has really had a harsh and harmful effect on nature, and I wanted to look into that a little. So, here we go. The fashion industry requires low costs to produce popular looks and trends with enough time that the looks will still be popular. But this means that mindfulness of the environment is a low priority, and the fashion industry has a very disturbing effect on the environment.Read More...

Bruce Ambrose (Tigithi School)
Hi everyone today i'm going to be checking on a drug known as Methadone,my inquiry question being i wonder why people take illegal drugs just for fun or self gain? first of all what is Methadone? Methadone is an opioid that is commonly prescribed to treat heroin or morphine addicts, as this pain reliever helps the user come down from those harder substances. Even though the risk of addiction is low when used as directed by a doctor in a clinical setting, many recreational users have been...Read More...

Hello lovely people! I've returned with more research, and in this round, I looked at marketing in the fashion industry. I don't know if I'll look deeper into this part of it, maybe I'll do another round with more specific examples. But it's kind of impossible to talk about fashion without talking about marketing. As well, a lot of this knowledge didn't come from the internet, but workshops and speakers and things like that from school, so credit goes to those people. Here we go. These are...Read More...

Hello everyone in this post I will be talking about how some music can make you sad. Even if music does or doesn't make you feel like crying it can reveal information about your fundamental personality, and that is different for every personality types. Researchers Katherine Cotter and Paul Silvia at the University of North Carolina and Kirill Fayn at the University of Sydney came together to research the emotions that people feel when music makes them feel like crying. Déjà Vu Introduction

Alice Yang (LFAS)
Hello Everyone :))! Just to get everyone updated I wanted to show what I've learned about D éjà Vu in general so far! D éjà Vu is french for already seen , which is where the word comes from. D éjà Vu is actually something that is very poorly understood even today, but is known to be most common to those between the ages 15-25! Although there aren't any solid facts for why we have D éjà Vu in certain events, there are definitely some theories. D éjà Vu can be triggered when you smell...Read More...

Hello folks! I've been enjoying my project a lot, but I wanted to let you know that I'm going to be changing a couple of things. I know I said that in my third round of research, I would be looking at how movies and music videos influenced fashion, but I feel like I need to look at other things first. 1) I had a request to look at current fashion trends in Kenya, which piqued my interest, so I will be working on that a little bit. 2) I also want to look more at men's fashion trends in my...Read More...

Inquire question: What does Anime bring to us? Definition of Anime: Anime (/ˈænəˌmeɪ/ (Japanese: アニメ, [aɲime]) also called Japanimation, is hand-drawn or computer animation associated with Japan. What do yawns actually do?

Jake Schmidt (LFAS)
Yawns is defined as "a reflex act of opening one's mouth wide and inhaling deeply due to tiredness or boredom". I believe there is more to yawning then just opening your mouth and just breathing because their are tons of very logical theories. The ones I found to be the most logical are the ones I will look at in this post. Yawning stretches joints and muscles and increases heart rate and over all makes you more alert. This could explain why people at times of increased focus or activity...Read More...

Inquiry Topic Update

Alice Yang (LFAS)
Hello everyone! I haven't been posting much since I had a hard time choosing a specific Inquiry Topic that I wanted to focus on this cycle. I had a few ideas at first, but they were very scientific, and more specifically related to Geology. Therefore I wanted to focus on something else. The Inquiry Question that I have for now is: Why Do Some of Us Get More Déjà Vu than Others . For my next post, I will research about the basics, like why we get Déjà Vu. This is all for now! Thank you!Read More...

Hey Everyone! A few weeks ago I looked into the connection between trees and fish for my "Broaden Your Thinking". After a short Googling session I learnt of a species of fish known as the Mangrove Killifish, who live outside of water for months out of the year. After researching, I had to ask a question: How far can one species adapt before it isn't considered part of the animal class(eg:mammals, birds, fish) it was before? This question stuck with me so I had to use it for my new cycle.Read More...

Hello everyone I began to look for physical proof the we all can agree on. One of the most historic events that clearly happened but still has its mysteries is the Ice Age. The Ice age was actually just a period of time before a flood the covered the whole earth. some people think that the ice age covered the whole earth but the "Ice Age" refers the ice sheets that arose in the northern hemisphere. The beginning of the Ice Age could be around 2250 BC after the great flood in the bible that...Read More...

This week, I will be doing an intro to my topic; my inquiry question is: How is urban development impeding riparian zones and streamkeeping? I am focusing on the impacts of urban development in relation to riparian zones (which I will explain later) and streamkeeping, and will be concentrating my efforts on one...Read More...

HI everyone! I just started butterfly effect and have chosen my first question. So when I moved here in July, one of the first things that I noticed was how many people went crabbing. Many families would go out and catch dozens of crabs to bring home. There are laws that protect crabs, but from what I hear they are not enforced at all. In my research and experiments, I will investigate if this is doing real damage to the local crab population and health. I will be doing many things including...Read More...

Immigration

Erika Ceballos (Madison East)
Hi guys! My research project is on immigration issues and possible solutions to these problems. Initially, my research consisted of comparing the different perspectives on immigration from my community at Madison East High and the students from Malek and Sweetwaters. I found that the opinions varied based on who the group of immigrants was. Some groups received little to no sympathy whereas others did. This sparked curiosity in me, with immigration being a global matter, how can we improve...Read More...

Hello, folks! I am excited to share with you what I have found! First of all, I'm going to think of this research round as kind of a starting point, to gather examples of fashion trends from the 1970's to the 1990's and including a bit about the early 2000s, and then expand on them in future research. I also wanted to point out that I will be looking at the more feminine styles of this time period. I will mention men's styles here and there, since they are important to my research, but for...Read More...
