https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtT3e3exJA0 Stephen and Timothy Quay ( / ˈ k w eɪ / kway ; born June 17, 1947) are American identical twin brothers better known as the Brothers Quay or Quay Brothers . They are influential stop-motion animators . They are also the recipients of the 1998 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design for their work on the play The Chairs . A couple of weeks ago when I dropped into figure drawing I met a guy who told me about the aforementioned film makers. It...

Hive Mind Update 25 (Breakthrough/progress)

So I realized I wrote this post in a text document and never posted about it so here it is. Well the past week has finally kind of worked out for Hive Mind. I think I have finally figured out how the rest of the film should be shot. I realized in order for the scaling of everything to be as ‘perfect’ as I want it to be I have to film the majority of the characters’ scenes in front of a green screen and for wide shots shrink them so that the architecture looks a lot larger. I also realized...

Hive Mind Update 24 (challenges/setbacks)

Recently I have been struggling with making progress. The main reason being the city set was built without the thought of really filming there. There are a numerous amount of buildings that make it very difficult to navigate around and get any stable footage. I also built the set too close to the wall, where the bluescreen is currently hanging. Because of the reflection from the light, when I use chromakey parts of my city disappear as well. All this was very easy to brush off and assume I...

Hive Mind Update 23 (Celebration of Learning)

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByF-ZoJN-u2SVVpWb05NMy1pdkU Above is my presentation document Well the end of the term has come and I will be taking this project into my next cycle but for now here's to making it this far into the project. I think that this is the most ambitious project that I have ever attempted. The fact that it hasn't completely fallen apart yet still surprises me every day and I am thankful for everything and everyone that has contributed to it. I don't mean to be...

Peace Out

This project has been an accumulation of all I have learned in both Butterfly Effect and English 11 this past year. In the most recent years I have been conducting a personal investigation into lifestyles that lessen my impact on the planet, starting in grade 9 Social Studies when I looked into the reality of industrial food production and grade 10 alternative urban farming methods. This year I’ve looked at a more permanent lifestyle change: energy sources. Although my original interest was...

Schizophrenia in Africa

How do schizophrenic patients in Africa get medical and therapist treatment? (Samuel just told me, that 25% of just Kenya's population has a mental disease, but schizophrenia is not really accepted by the society there, too. ) I connected that to an recent Article from the New York times, that I read. It's written by the science reporter Benedict J. Carey. I summarized the most important information. Innovative groups have begun experimenting with providing mental therapy without clinics or...

Our story: Living and coping with Schizophrenia

COPSI stands for COmmunity care for People with Schizophrenia in India and it’s an alternative and well-working idea of a mental health care system, especially for treating the schizophrenia disease in India. Vikram Patel's ted talk linked me to a documentary about the COPSI project. It's obviously lead by Patel as well as the British Psychiatrists Graham Thornicroft The documentary mainly shows deeply personal and moving conversations in interview form of participants of the project and the...

COPSi Schizophrenia in India

I was watching a couple Ted Talks as I found the name, Vikram Patel . I watched his ted talk where he talks about his project named COPSI in India. It's a new idea of a mental health care system in low resource countries because the expensive western system just doesn't work for them. A very breathtaking example of his was that there are just a couple professional doctors in the city of Zimbabwe who would have to look after 9 million mental patients in the countryside. This is an incredible...

New Inquiry: Schizophrenia (treatment and stigma)

07/03/16 23:25 Inquiry topic: Schizophrenia Inquiry question: Can we create a health care system that treats schizophrenic patients successfully and reduces the stigma at the same time? Name of teacher: Silvia Knittel Plan: It took me quite a little to find the right project for butterfly effect. My first inquiry wasn't really a topic, that was interesting for me. But I think now I found the right project and I'm very excited about it. Schizophrenia is a very interesting mental disease, but...

Hive Mind Update 21 (Metamorphisis)

http://unu.ai/ http://unanimous.ai/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKNVwXU2rrI I recently came across UNU which is a swarm/hive intelligence composed of humans. From their website: We empower people Unlike traditional AI, which aims to replicate human intelligence with software, our Swarm Intelligence technologies enable intelligent systems that keep people in the loop , leveraging our natural human intuitions, emotions, and sensibilities. At Unanimous, we use technology to amplify human...

Hive Mind Update 20 (challenges

I recently installed a trial version of Dragon Frame I skim-read the manual and watched all of the company's tutorials on Vimeo. It's pretty user-friendly and is very tailored towards stop-motion. I especially like the tools that are used for shooting and the way they handle frames (individual pictures) in the timeline. I learned a bit more about rgb histograms because it was relevant to the user-interface of the software. Anyone who is interested in digital photography should take a look at...

Mother Earth News

Author: Cam Mather [Author, books written about his lifestyle.] Summary: Cam Mather and wife Michelle moved from their home in the suburbs to a 150 acre farm in Eastern Ontario. It took them 5 years to find a property that woul work for their future, as they set out with the intention of having a property without a grid connection. Hive Mind Update 18

Can't believe this is my 18th post on this project already. Upon taking these photos I have realized how absolutely horrible the sky looks. I think I will go about investing in a bluescreen and I will chromakey in the background instead. Above is a matte-painting/edit of what I want the final product to look like. We are still on schedule though and I am confident that I will be able to begin shooting mid-June by the latest.
