What I Do On My School Holidays – Lucas

Holidays are a very important part of student’s lives. It could benefit your physical and mental health. Doing recreational activities on weekends can relieve stress and lighten your mood. Personally, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities during my holidays.

Before this summer, my family had a big plan of travelling to Taiwan for a month. This was very special for me and my brother because it will be the first time going back to Taiwan since we moved here 3 and a half years ago. Sadly, this trip was cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead of going to Taiwan, my family decided to go on a road trip within Canada with our family friends. We visited many places in BC and Alberta including Kamloops, Jasper, Banff, Canmore, and Kelowna. My favourite memory from the trip was when we paddle boarded in Moraine Lake. The water there was in a bright blue hue. Me, my brother, and my family friends even created an entertaining Youtube video when we were paddleboarding. This is the video we shot and edited: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc19eoIKz5c

Another thing that I’ve been doing this summer was going camping. My favourite camp in this summer was my paddleboarding camp. I did this camp with my family, my friend, and his family. We woke up early in the morning and paddled 2 hours from Belcarra to Twin Island. Being on the ocean, I saw a lot of seals, starfish, and jellyfish in the water. I also spotted some red jellyfish. When I woke up the next morning, the view of the sea was so gorgeous. The sun had just risen and the water was really calm because there were no motorboats. I enjoyed this trip a lot because this was the first time I’ve done a paddleboarding camp.

Going outside makes me happy and energized. I try to do outdoor activities as much as I can. On school weekends, I have to do the Math workbook and practice my saxophone before going outside. After that, my family might go to places around Vancouver. On recent weekends, I went scootering at the Rocky Point skatepark with my friends. I started scootering this summer and I’ve learned a couple of tricks. I could do a double tailwhip, barspin, feeble, hip whip, 180 half cab, heel whip, and can plant. I usually go to the skatepark for 2 hours each time to learn new tricks and have fun. I believe that scootering is an excellent sport. There’s so much creativity involved and you can always find different places to do grinds and tricks.

Everyone has their own way of spending holiday time. On weekends, we all should take a break from school to do your own hobbies. I highly encourage you to spend a decent time doing outdoor activities as it benefits your health. Thank you for reading and I hope you can leave a comment on what you do on your school holidays.

  1. Hi Lucas,

I agree with you. Everyone needs a break once in a while. During holydays I enjoy staying both indoors and outdoors. Some of my favorite things to do is read books near the sea and play volleyball.

  2. Hi Lucas,
I agree holidays are a very important part of a student’s life. During holidays, I also like to play outdoors with my family. What do you like to play during the school holidays?

  3. Hi Lucas,
Indeed, holidays are a very important part of a student’s lives and I’m also sad that i couldn’t go anywhere during the summer because of the pandemic, but it’s nice how you got together with your family friends and got to still explore new places 🙂 Did you learn how to paddle board? or you already knew?

    • I was very lucky to have a chance to travel in the summer. I learned to paddleboard about three years ago and my family has two inflatable boards.
