Hello everyone,
This post is essentially a reflection of my Inquiry Project on dental hygiene/oral health.
A. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?
The main challenges that I faced was finding sufficient information, as well as checking with the dental hygienist I was talking to, to ensure that my research was relevant. At first this Inquiry Project was actually an Action, however due to Covid-19 I switched over to Inquiry. I think that even if I had left my project as an Action I would’ve had more difficulty getting the time to volunteer and help at the office so that could’ve been a possible challenge. I overcame this challenge – finding good research – from what a past teacher had showed me looking at peer reviewed sources etc and like I said I confirmed every time with someone who is actually in the dental field.
B. How did this inquiry change the way you think?
From all the information that I got from each round of research I know that I learned a bunch and made me think deeper into why its so important to not only take care of you body but other areas as well such as your mouth. Even just after my first round I started to implement many of those things into my own dental routine now like not brushing as hard which was just habit from having braces even to the small things like making sure my tooth paste has enough fluoride etc. and I hope that readers received that same knowledge.
C. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
Since I am planning to pursue a career in the dental field these are things that I would eventually learn but to be bale to have now all this information before that happens is awesome. This will also not only help in my career in the future but it can help now in the present time helping myself to keep up good oral health so that I don’t have problems in the future, all thanks to this project.
D. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
I hope that from my findings that everyone who reads this will better understand why it is so important to keep up good dental hygiene and that it is not too late to start making good habits to prevent disease or long term problems and for globally I hope that those that don’t have as much resources as us can simply see how something as small eating more vegetables or drinking more water can help as well.
