January 2017

Last month I conducted a survey with some grade two students at my school. I asked them when they used technology, and gave them three options to select from (Before School, After School and Before Bed). The majority of students selected more than two boxes which came as a surprise to me. I found it even more shocking that almost half of the students stated that they use technology at all three points throughout the day. Of course this may not be the case daily, but as an average still...Read More...

I am beginning to research the physiological affects of technology on children. This week I focused on TV and how it impacts the developing mind. Based on recent research, scientists and pediatricians worldwide have come to the consensus that it is best if a...Read More...

Hey guys, Balloons/art emphasizes beauty that is already there. Makes people see their ordinary in a new light, to “re-imagine it”. We become engaged citizens, responsible for one another. This has or will hopefully occur through the mural project, forcing everyone to be responsible for what happens in our community from grade ones to teachers. I hope this idea will motivate older students to set a good example for their younger community or intervene if they witness kids doing things they...Read More...

Hey there,My research is carrying on well and i found E waste in Africa comes from; In Agbogbloshie in Accra where richer people dump them. In West Africa where turns into dumping ground for e-waste. You find E-waste dumped in Ghana where a recyclers uses a makeshift knife to cut up copper wire. Some also recycle metal from broken electrical tools. In Kenya used electronics are one of the fastest growing sources of waste globally and it is estimated that 15000 tons of used computers and...Read More...

A lot can be determined by a character's choice of attire. It can add to the backstory, development and/or personality of said character. It wouldn’t be as scary if Patrick Bateman (“American Psycho” (2000)) wore a t-shirt and jeans. Derek Zoolander (“Zoolander” (2001)) wouldn’t be caught dead in an ugly outfit. What they were given by the wardrobe department was a key essential for their whole image. There’s a rule among the writing community of ‘show don’t tell’. I think this rule is the...Read More...

okay so now im going to really try and get to the bottom of this. Can someone REALLY fall in love at first sight??? you've heard the stories and seen the movies, "our eyes met from across the room, and i knew from that moment he was the one. " and then you think to yourself, "that's soooo cliché." Well, I'm here to argue both sides. Two words: gut instinct. "But there is that instant, gut emotion you get when you see someone for the first time, that can be ever so telling as to where your...Read More...

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SUe0B8QsNFgIQUgxTwUUGbKA8xrGj7UMHZYDbGPbauY/edit This is the final version of the paper that I wrote on the subject of Soviet Film Theory. Recently I have been filming again, and have purchased a proper green-screen setup (which will arrive later this week) that will make filming walk sequences much easier. The run-time is currently around 20 minutes, and this project is turning out to be a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There are many aspects of...Read More...

Hello everyone! We're at post #5 now and we've come a long way. I have discussed immigration, refugees, and the environment, bringing us to the final topic; global affairs and military. During my last two posts, I plan on discussing Canada's international role as a peacekeeper and in war/anti-terrorism efforts around the world, and how it impacts us locally. I will also be looking into how these issues affect our politics and if it really, is Canada's biggest political challenge. Now it is...Read More...

Hi again everyone! For this final round of research, I wanted to look into something a little bit different; something that can be applied to our current and future societies while still remaining relevant to my topic. Today, I will be discussing how the attachments of children growing up in the digital age are different than those of previous generations, and how their growing exposure to the online world will influence the development of their brains. We all know that over the past few...Read More...

Hey again everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! For this round of research, I have chosen to delve further into the research of John Bowlby, the man who is widely considered to be the pioneer of attachment theory. I made this decision because within Bowlby's research, many of the previous subtopics which I have discussed are either analyzed or at least mentioned, from Konrad Lorenz's research, to neglectful parenting styles, and more. As I discussed in my very first round...Read More...

In this "Broaden Your Thinking" component of my first research round I would like to compare the correlation between exercise and neural activity with how Hitler's laws changed art and science in Germany. Pretty obscure... Comparing how exercise affects neural activity (well) and how Hitler's ideologies, combined with his laws, changed the arts are sciences in Nazi Germany (not well). Lets be real though, comparing a comparison/correlation project with another project is difficult an...Read More...

Some of the positive effects of colonialism in kenya include the current education system in kenya which was brought about by the British who colonized kenya. They introduced formal education and replaced the traditional apprenticeship method of learning used in the older times. Colonialism also introduced Christianity which brought with it various vaccines for diseases such as malaria which were affecting most communities at the time. More over, in most cases, where the churches were...Read More...

Hello everyone! Last week I started off with some simple information on the nature vs nurture debate. This week, I want to try to go more in-depth. Here is a short definition of this debate in case anyone does not know: "One of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the Nature vs Nurture debate . Each of these sides have good points that it's really hard to decide whether a person's development is predisposed in his DNA, or a majority of it is influenced by this life...Read More...

What do most people do when they're bored? I'm not sure. Maybe organize their belongings, check this blog, or listen to me ramble (desperately bored, in that case) Let's change the question. What do I do when I'm bored? Do horrible things to myself. Like learning. And adding yet another language to my ever-growing hall of pain. Why do I do this to myself? Здравствуйте, Русский. Hope I don't drop you after two weeks. Besides, I needed a non-Asian language to mix things up. So finding...Read More...

Recently I've been interested in film-theory and how editing revolutionized cinema and transformed it from an extension of theatre (before the 20's) to the art form we see today. I looked at Marx Engel's Dialectics of Materialism, some of Stalin's writings/speeches and compared it to Sergei Eisenstein's essays and put his techniques in context of his films. Needless to say, this was a rough draft of the paper (there may be some typos) that I have been working on and it has evolved much...Read More...

Research 1.4 The Spark

Ben Laird (LFAS)
Research 1.4 The Spark and how it relates to 1.3. Last week, during research section 1.3, I decided to take a break from reading scholarly research articles and coming up with a combination of their conclusions and my educated filling in of the gaps; I decided to read a book based of a similar project, albeit more in depth than mine. Over the last week I have been reading the book "Spark" written by Dr. John J. Ratey. This book subtitled "the revolutionary new science of exercise and the...Read More...

As rains pound different parts of the country wreaking havoc in Mwingi West in the semi-arid Kitui County just 171 kilometers from Nairobi. Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted my research, and my reason for that is because I wanted to find a reliable source other than a website. So finally, I found a newspaper article/ scientific paper that relates to my topic. This round is about the supermassive black hole in our galaxy, Sagittarius A. All the way up until 1974, scientists had their suspicions of a black hole in the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy. They had made predictions and observations, but there wasn't any solid...Read More...

Hey everyone! This is my fifth round of research for this cycle. Last week I enjoyed looking a tiny bit into senior dogs and wished to learn more , so this week I am going to do an entire topic on senior dogs. If you didn’t read my post last week, here is some information I had already found on senior dogs if you are interested. Separation anxiety- This is very common in senior dogs. The dog would get nervous when their owner leaves. This may cause barking, being destructive, urinate or...Read More...

I have been following up this two projects and it came to my attention after Tayryn posted on love at first sight which I found REALLY interesting, I compared it with sexual exploitation and surprisingly when i did some research i found that what people claim to be love at first sight is a major cause...Read More...
