I wonder how child labour influences the world we live in and what effects it has towards children.

Hi everyone i would like research on child labour and its effects.

Child labour are very hard tasks that deprive children their potential and dignity. It is harmful to their physical and mental development when they are at a young age.It involves children being enslaved, exposed to serious and hard hazards and long term illness.

History of child labour.

It began in the mid -of 1800's, and child labor was a major problem. It started at the age of 7 years where children were tending machines in spinning mills or hauling heavy loads .In Canada, today there are child labor laws similar to those in the US.In 1999 over 160 countries approved an International labour organization (ILO)  and compatibility to end child labour. There are 218 million child labourers worldwide:126 million of them are engaged in high-risky work.

Africa has the largest incidence rates of child labour where about 59 million children between  the age of 5 and 17 years are imposed to hazardous work.More than 1 in 5 children are employed against their will in stone quarries, farms and mines. In Sub-Sahara more than 40% of all children aged 5-14 labor for survival, which is about 48 million children.Agriculture is the largest employer of child labor in Africa.

In Kenya there is a minimum age restriction that does not apply to employees unless the undertaking is dangerous to life, health or morals of the persons employed. There is no legal minimum working age in the Agricultural and services sectors or for domestic work.

Hey Priscilla!

This is a really interesting and incredibly sad subject... Child labour is a reality which many of us want to forget about, but in truth, we use children to manufacture many of the products that we consume today. I think it's awesome that you're shedding some light on this subject; great job!

Hey Priscilla!

This is really important and interesting research. Child labour is a very serious and very harmful issue. Child labour has countless terrible effects for children, such as health issues, taking away their childhoods and cruelty or abuse. It might also be interesting for you to research the causes of child labour, and how we could put an end to it.

I'm really looking forward to reading future posts!

Hi Priscilla,

Your inquiry question is very important. It is shocking to see the statistics and realize how many children are being forced into a life where they are stripped of their childhood. In today's world, thanks to the media, many are aware of child labour and it would be interesting to look into how knowing child labour exists affect children who are not child labourers. The follwing link describes the affects of child labour on children who are involved with it:

Hi Priscilla,

I think this is a topic that is both fascinating and sad. Child labor has gone on for so long and too long. I think that it would be interesting to research further into the topic of why Africa has more child slavery then North America. Agriculture does play a big part as you mentioned above, but is there more access to child slaves and is it easier to hide child slaves in Africa? Also I think it would be interesting to look at statistics to see how long children are slaves for and how many of them have been child slaves for all their childhood.

Good luck!
