Drugs

Hi everyone today i'm going to be checking on a drug known as Methadone,my inquiry question being i wonder why people take  illegal drugs just for fun or self gain?

first of all what is Methadone?

Methadone is an opioid that is commonly prescribed to treat heroin or morphine addicts, as this pain reliever helps the user come down from those harder substances. Even though the risk of addiction is low when used as directed by a doctor in a clinical setting, many recreational users have been drawn to the substance and subsequently become addicted. Methadone generally comes in the form of tablets, powder and liquid. It shares some of the same effects as morphine, but is not quite as strong or addictive as that opiate.

Methadone can slow or stop a user’s breathing, especially when someone first starts using the drug. That is why You should not use methadone if you have severe asthma or breathing problems, or a blockage in your stomach or intestines .And even  Taking this medicine during pregnancy may cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the newborn so people should avoid that   so when taken Fatal side effects can occur if you use this medicine with alcohol, or with other drugs that cause drowsiness or slow your breathing.

You should not use methadone if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

severe asthma or breathing problems; or

a blockage in your stomach or intestines.

Methadone may cause a life-threatening heart rhythm disorder. Your heart function may need to be checked during treatment.

Some medicines can interact with methadone and cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Be sure your doctor knows if you also take stimulant medicine, herbal products, or medicine for depression, mental illness, Parkinson's disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or prevention of nausea and vomiting. Ask your doctor before making any changes in how or when you take your medications.

What Are Methadone’s Effects On The Brain?

Methadone in most people produces feelings of sedation and contentment as a result of its action on the opioid receptors of the brain. When methadone is abused, one of the main reason for the abuse are the feelings of high and lethargy. However, in those who abuse methadone continuously for a longer period of time, more serious side effects can be observed. Those adverse effects include:

confusion

depression

disorientation

hallucinations

mania

mental clouding

mood changes

restlessness

sleep problems and here you find it hard to get some sleep unless you take some sleeping pills which has effects too

Hey Ambrose,

Very interesting round of research! Truthfully, I think this topic is very relevant towards people today because some people like to take illegal drugs to "make them feel better" but in the long run addiction becomes an issue which results in permanent damage as you mentioned in your research. Perhaps you could do a round of research on prevention of drugs or another round on a different illegal drug that has a large impact on society. Here are some links on drugs.

Good luck on your next round of research.
