For this cycle, I focused my reserach on the question of "How has the Historical trends of fashion and beauty influenced our modern standard of beauty?” When I research a topic, I often find myself not taking it to heart, especially when it does not seem to relate to me. However, with the main point of this cycle being about fashion of Victorian era and Manchu Qing dynasty women and how it relates to modern day fashion. I find myself feeling more connected to my work. This allows me to see how truly connected we are to history, even if it was on two different side of the world. We are all connected to history and history is actually still very present today; use fashion as an example. As strange as it all seems, I realize that we are living in history in a way. We live similar to they way they once did in the past. When I realize that, everything becomes so strange. Like during the days I would learn about history in class, often i would think "wow why would they do that to themselves, or why would they even think that way?" But that's is how our society works. We judge what women did in history for beauty, but today we do things just as questionable as they once did.
This investigation will change how we view our modern world and history. I know that now when I learn about history, it will connect to our world now. Often when I research historical topics, the information doesn't leave a lasting impression on me. However, now that I realize how connected we truly are to history it changes how I see the world today. The world we live in is the work of what has happened in history. History is the roots of our society today, the judgement they once made then are still made now. From history we learn from their mistakes and try to prevent it from happening again now.
This new knowledge brings forward the connection we will always have to the past. History still plays a large role in our society. From that, I believe many will learn that we are the product of the past. Our history has changed the world in a both positive and negative way. From this it has changed the world we lived in and caused pain and suffering as well as happiness and love. We will always be connected to our history, but it does not mean we are ment to repeat it. We can learn so much from history. Through that knowledge we can change how we view others and make a positive change. We cannot move forward without knowing our own roots and history.
Challenges were quite evident within this cycle. I lost interest in my work for a long period of time. However, through reflection and going back to my roots, I realized why I loved this topic so much and continued forward. From the slump, I was able to connect to my main goal and continue on this topic with new found passion. It was a process that changed me as a student and taught me the importance of my roots and original passion.
